Can I set my eeros to use the 2.4 or 5 GHz frequency?

eero uses a single SSID that allows devices to live on both the 2.4 and 5 GHz radio frequency. This ensures your devices are able to move along eero's mesh efficiently, delivering the highest results to the devices throughout your entire home.

There is no way to permanently separate the frequencies broadcast by the eero into distinct 2.4 and 5Ghz bands. However, this does not impede the ability of most devices to connect and operate seamlessly on the eero network, even if they only operate on a single frequency, such as 2.4Ghz.

Certain devices require a connection to a specific wireless frequency in order to connect. These devices can be difficult to connect to the eero network without taking specific steps to improve compatibility.

Hiding 5Ghz

IoT devices that connect through a third party app often have a strict 2.4Ghz requirement that prevents them from connecting to eero networks under default settings. You can use the eero App to improve compatibility with these devices by temporarily “hiding” the 5Ghz broadcast, allowing you to connect your devices.

  1. Open the eero App and tap on Settings.
  2. Select Troubleshooting > My device won’t connect.
  3. Tap on the Temporarily pause 5Ghz button.

This will disable 5Ghz on the network for 10 minutes, allowing you to set up devices as needed. Devices that connect will stay connected even after 5Ghz begins broadcasting again.
