With rolling software updates, your eero wifi system will improve over time. These updates provide your eeros with the latest features, security enhancements, and bug fixes. When an update is available, we release it to customers on a rolling basis. In certain circumstances, you may have the opportunity to manually update your own network through the eero App. You can schedule your over-the-air (OTA) updates to meet your networking needs.
How do I schedule a preferred update time?
Scheduling OTA updates for your eero network eliminates downtime during peak hours when you need your wifi the most. To schedule a preferred time for eero OS updates:
- Open the eero App, and tap Settings in the bottom-right corner
- Select Software updates
- Tap Preferred update time
- Select the timeframe that best suits your needs, and make sure to choose AM or PM
Your eero system will now update during your preferred time settings.
Can I update my eeros right after setting up my network?
Yes. After you set up your new network, you'll see a blue prompt at the top of the eero App asking if you'd like to Update now. To install the latest version of eero OS on your network, tap this button. To update at another time or allow your eeros to automatically update overnight, tap the X on the left side of the prompt.
Note: Your eeros will automatically reboot during the update process. This will cause your network to momentarily go offline.
How can I check to see if there is an eero OS update available on my network?
To check if an eero OS update is available for your network:
- Open the eero App, and tap Settings in the bottom-right corner
- Tap Software updates. If a new eero OS version is available, you will see the message "An update is available" and a short list of changes contained in the new version
- Tap Install now and update your eero network to the latest OS version
Note: Your eeros will automatically reboot during the update process. This will cause your network to momentarily go offline.
Before installing an eero OS update, you will need to ensure that the eeros you intend to update are online and connected to your network. If you don't see "An update is available," your system is up to date with the latest software.

Why can't I update my eeros when they are offline?
Updating your eero OS requires that you are connected to the internet. Before starting a software update, ensure all your eeros are powered on and connected to your network.
If your internet provider is experiencing an outage, or your network is down for another reason, you won't be able to update your eeros until your connection is restored. If one or more of your eeros are unplugged, they won't have an internet connection and won't be able to update.
We have troubleshooting steps available if your eero network is offline. If you need further assistance, contact your internet provider to ensure there isn't an ongoing outage.
What do I do if I'm adding a new eero to my existing network?
When you add an additional eero to your network, you may be prompted to update the new eero. After completing installation, we will check to see what version your new eero is on and determine if it will require an immediate update. Immediate updates ensure the new eero is compatible with the software running on your existing network.
How long does a software update typically take?
Software updates can take anywhere from 15–20 minutes. Update length depends on your internet connection speed, the strength of the connection between your eeros, and how much network traffic is occurring while the update downloads.
During this process, your eeros will download their new update and then immediately reboot. You can continue to use your network as usual for the majority of the update. You may notice about 90 seconds of downtime when your eeros reboot.
How can I be notified when my network has updated?
The eero App allows you to enable push notifications that inform you when an update is scheduled to occur and when the update is finished. To enable update notifications:
- Open the eero App, and tap Settings in the bottom-right corner
- Tap Notifications
- To be notified before an update begins, tap the toggle button next to 12 hours reminder or 15 minutes reminder
- To be notified when an update finishes successfully, tap the toggle button next to Update installed
