Why am I getting stuck on “looking for devices” during setup?

If you're using an Android 13 device with certain eero models, you may get stuck on the "looking for devices" step. This happens because of Bluetooth connectivity changes in Android 13 that affect eero's setup process.

You can work around this by manually entering your eero's serial number in the eero App (version 6.26.1 or later), or by using one of the solutions below.

Note: This issue does not affect iOS users or Android 12 (or earlier) users. The issue is fixed in eeroOS v6.13.4 and later.

Which eero models are affected?

This issue affects these eero models when used with certain Android 13 versions:

  • eero 6 (router)
  • eero 6+
  • eero Pro 6
  • eero Pro 6E
  • eero PoE 6

Why is this happening?

A recent Android 13 release from Google changes Bluetooth connectivity behavior, which causes issues with eero's Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) setup process. Depending on the version, not all Android 13 users are affected.

Note: If you need to configure VLAN or PPPoE settings, you cannot use the manual serial number workaround because these features require Bluetooth configuration before your eero connects to the internet.

What if my internet service provider requires VLAN or PPPoE?

If your network requires VLAN or PPPoE configuration, you'll need an alternative setup method since these features require Bluetooth configuration before your eero connects to the internet.

Recommended solution:

If you already have an eero network connected to the internet, upgrade your Gateway eero to eeroOS v6.13.4 to fix the issue.

How can I set up my eero network?

Try these options:

Use an older Android device

If you have an Android phone running Android 12 or an earlier Android 13 version, install the eero App on that device to complete setup. After setup, update to the latest firmware, then switch to your current phone.

Use an iPhone

If you have access to an iPhone, use it to complete the initial setup. After setup, update to the latest firmware, then switch to your Android device.

Use a double NAT configuration

If you have an existing router, connect your Gateway eero to it so the eero has internet access. After setup and upgrading to eeroOS 6.13.4, reinstall your eero network as the main router and apply your VLAN/PPPoE settings.
