Setting up eero with AT&T U-verse

If you have AT&T U-verse, you are required to use the modem equipment supplied to you which typically comes as a modem/router combo device. If you'd like to use eero with your U-verse service, you can bridge your eeros or set up an IP passthrough. We will go into detail for each of these below.

Disabling your U-verse WiFi (no TV service)

While not required, to avoid conflicting WiFi networks, you may want to disable the 2.4 & 5GHz WiFi on your supplied U-Verse modem/router combo device. This should only be done if you have AT&T internet without TV, as many features with U-Verse TV features require a wireless connection from your supplied device to work. If you are unsure of your current setup or have any questions before taking this step, you may want to contact U-verse.

After you have gone through set up, take the following steps to disable the WiFi:

  • Open a browser window
  • Type 192.168.1.254 in the search bar and press Enter
  • Log into your AT&T U-verse account
  • From the Home tab, select Wireless
  • Change Wireless Interface to Disabled
  • Press Save

From there, you can take either of the options below:

Setting up an IP passthrough

If you'd like to use your eeros with all the advanced features, it is necessary to set them up in conjunction with your modem/router combo device by creating an IP passthrough.

If you are going to take this step, generally, we recommend reaching out to U-verse support. You can also give us a call, and we will be more than happy to help to get this specific setting configured for you.

You can find specific instructions on setting up an IP passthrough here.

Putting your eeros into bridge mode

The simplest solution to using eeros with U-verse is putting your eeros into bridge mode. Due to the nature of U-verse and the necessary requirements, it has to pass traffic on your network, and using the eeros in bridge mode will allow you to get all the same benefits of eero's mesh while allowing U-verse to continue to manage all your network's routing. Please note that bridge mode does come with some drawbacks, of which you can read here

To put your eeros into bridge mode, first set them up normally via the instructions through the eero app. Once setup is complete, do the following:

  • Open the eero app and tap Settings (bottom right corner)
  • Tap Advanced
  • Tap DHCP & NAT
  • Switch your selection from Automatic to Bridge
  • Tap the Save button in the top right corner
