Why is my Arris SB6183 modem having issues with my eero network?

A specific firmware version on Arris SB6183 modems causes compatibility issues with eero networks. The problematic firmware version is SB6183-9.2.0.0-GA-03-29-NOSH.

If you're experiencing these issues with your eero network, you likely have this firmware version:

  • Large file downloads stall or fail
  • Connection drops while streaming music and video wirelessly

Note: Most customers use eero with SB6183 modems without issues. Only a small subset with this specific firmware version experience problems.

How do I check my modem's firmware version?

To verify your Arris SB6183 firmware version:

  1. Open any web browser on a computer connected to your SB6183 modem through an Ethernet cable
  2. In the address bar, go to http://192.168.100.1
  3. You should see the SB6183 Status Connection screen with six tabs at the top
  4. Tap the Product Information tab
  5. The firmware version is listed next to Software Version

What can I do about this issue?

Arris has confirmed this firmware version has bugs and has released fixes in newer firmware updates. However, your internet service provider controls which firmware versions are pushed to customer modems.

Contact your internet service provider to request a firmware update for your Arris SB6183 modem. Unfortunately, neither Arris nor eero can control which firmware versions internet providers release to their customers.
