Can I use eero with my modem?

We've tested eero for compatibility with most modems on the market today. Unless noted below, eero should work with your existing modem right out of the box.

Some modems and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) require special configurations. Please see specifics below:

Combo Modem/Routers

Many ISPs provide a single device that acts as a modem and a router simultaneously. If you have one of these devices, you should:

  1. Follow the setup instructions in the eero app. When the app asks you to connect your gateway eero to your modem, attach your gateway eero directly to your modem/router combo device via Ethernet.
  2. When prompted to create a network name, select a unique network name (SSID) for your eero network.
  3. [Optional] After setting up your eeros, you can optimize the performance of your network by turning off the routing and WiFi functionality of your combo device. You do this by putting it in bridge mode. This step is not mandatory.

Verizon FiOS

eeros work well with Verizon FiOS Internet-only service. If you want to control your FiOS TV from within your eero network, there are some additional configuration steps you'll have to take. You can review those steps here.

AT&T’s U-verse

eeros work well with AT&T U-verse service. To set up your eero network just follow the setup instructions in the eero app. After your eero network is set up, we recommend disabling WiFi on the AT&T U-verse router. See our detailed U-verse instructions here.

DSL

Your eeros will work with DSL. To set up your eero network just follow the setup instructions in the eero app. If your DSL provider requires PPPoE, you should set up your eeros behind your existing router. (This configuration is called 'double NATing'. See our steps on how to do this here.) After you set up your network, you can log into your existing router and disable WiFi to prevent multiple SSIDs. If you’re not sure how to do this, please contact your ISP for assistance.

Google Fiber

Google Fiber’s support page provides helpful tips on connecting your own router – in this case, your eeros – to your Fiber Jack.

What if I don't have a modem?

Some ISPs don't actually require their users to have a modem. (See Webpass, for example.) In these instances, users should skip the modem instructions and instead plug their gateway eero into the Ethernet jack on their wall.
