How do I use the eero Upgrade Report?

The Upgrade Report in the eero App identifies whether your devices could benefit from upgraded eero hardware and recommends specific upgrades based on your network and connected devices.

The eero App ensures your network is optimized to support the most advanced devices on your network. Instead of recommending the newest hardware, Upgrade Report suggests specific upgrades based on your current network and device ecosystem. Use the information provided to better understand the potential performance of your devices and make the upgrade that makes sense for you.

What is wifi compatibility?

Modern wifi performance is governed by a combination of hardware, connection, and security protocols that create Wi-Fi standards. Any device with wifi capability uses a Wi-Fi standard, which gives a general idea of its performance capabilities. Some examples of common wifi standards are:

  • Wi-Fi 4 (802.11n)
  • Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)
  • Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
  • Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be)

All eeros are compatible with Wi-Fi 5 and older devices, but not all eeros support Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7. Devices requiring newer standards can connect using Wi-Fi 5, which ensures compatibility but limits potential performance.

How do I generate an Upgrade Report?

Access the Upgrade Report by tapping the notification card near the bottom of the app's Home page, or by following these steps:

  1. Tap the Settings tab in the bottom-right corner
  2. Scroll down, and tap Troubleshooting
  3. Tap eero device upgrade report

Once active, the app will generate a report based on the devices currently connected to your network.

The report will identify the number and capabilities of your eero devices, focusing on eeros that are compatible with Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7. It will then analyze each device connected to the network to identify their capabilities.

What does a successful report look like?

Complete compatibility across the board will result in a successful report. Complete compatibility can be defined in the following terms:

  • No Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 devices on a network
  • No Wi-Fi 7 devices on a Wi-Fi 6 or older network
  • Wi-Fi 7 or older devices on a Wi-Fi 7 network

What if my devices need newer wifi standards?

If one or more of your devices support a newer Wi-Fi standard than the eeros on your network support, the Upgrade report will inform you which devices are performing with limited capabilities.

Note: On a Wi-Fi 6 network, only Wi-Fi 7 devices appear in the report. On networks without Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 compatible eeros, both Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 devices appear in the report.

What upgrade should I choose?

While upgrading to the newest hardware ensures maximum compatibility now and in the future, your Upgrade report provides a better understanding of the specific needs of your network. A network with no Wi-Fi 7 devices but several Wi-Fi 6 devices may be served just as well with Wi-Fi 6 eero hardware such as the eero 6 or eero Pro 6E.

The app will provide you with additional links to the Amazon store page if you wish to upgrade your eero hardware. If you'd like additional information or wish to speak to customer support, you may use the Contact support link at the bottom of the report.
