How can I access the eero Plus activity center?
Tap on the Activity tab on the main menu. You’ll be able to see an overview on each of the Plus filter categories, and you can tap on any of the graphs for a more in-depth examination.
While general information about network speed and data usage is available to all users, only eero Plus subscribers will have access to Security, Privacy and Safety features.
Within each section, you can also view the total number of Scans, Threat Blocks, Ad Blocks and Content Filters by day, week, and month.
What do the metrics mean?
- Scans: As you browse the web, each site you visit loads content such as ads, images, and extra code from hundreds if not thousands of sources. These transactions happen almost instantaneously and can contain harmful content. eero Plus inspects each transaction to ensure it’s safe before it loads.
- Threat blocks: If a scan determines a site is harmful, it will block the site before it loads. This is called a Threat Block and is reported in the Activity Center under four different categories:
- Malware blocks - Software that can harm your network and connected devices.
- Spyware blocks - Commonly found in suspicious ads, spyware can be used to track your online behavior, or in more serious cases, all network activity.
- Phishing blocks - When an attacker poses as a trustworthy website to get you to provide your personal information.
- Botnet blocks - When you or a device inadvertently attempts to access a website that has been associated with a botnet.
- Ad Blocks: eero Plus subscribers have the option to enable a robust ad blocker that will help to remove visible ads across the vast majority of websites and services. The eero Plus ad blocker works by disabling them at the DNS level, making it more effective than traditional ad blocker software.
- Safe Filters: eero Plus automatically tags sites that contain violent, illegal, or adult content so you can choose what your kids can and cannot visit right in the eero app.
Understanding your eero speed tests
What do my speed test results indicate?
The speed test results on the dashboard of your eero app show your network’s download and upload speeds. Your download speed is a measure of how fast information is traveling from the Internet to your eero network, and your upload speed reflects the speed of traffic going in the opposite direction.
These speeds are measured in quantity over time, specifically in megabits per second (Mbps). A megabit is a million bits, and a bit is a very small piece of data. Why is this important, you ask? The higher the number you see in your app, the speedier your Internet activity should be. For example, if you have a download speed of 2 Mbps, a typical web page will load in about half a second and downloading a 5-minute song should take 20–30 seconds. If you have a download speed of 12 Mbps, that web page will load instantly, and the same song will download in about a second.
Here are the speeds required for some of our favorite activities:
Speed (Mbps) | Activity |
5+ | Pandora, Spotify or web browsing |
25+ | Netflix or YouTube |
50+ | Video chat & gaming |
100+ | Multiple HD video streams |
How are eero’s speed test results measured?
The speed test in the eero app measures the speed that your eero network receives from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). The eero app will keep record of the results of your last 30 speed tests. These results reflect the rate at which data is downloaded to, and uploaded from, your gateway eero and a nearby server. Since the test is analyzing speed from your gateway eero out to the Internet and back, your results won't be affected by where you are when you initiate the test. In other words, whether you run the test in your living room, bedroom, or away from your home, the app will be testing the same thing.
How do I run a speed test on my network?
The eero app automatically runs a speed test every two days. The results of the latest test can be found in the following ways:
- Open the eero App and Tap the Activity Icon at the bottom of the page
- Tap Speed
- Tap Run Speed Test
Note: You may also run a speedtest from the app if the network is offline. Results from the latest test will appear in the app whenever it reconnects to the internet.
Understanding Your Network Data Usage
eero Plus allows users to monitor their network data usage through the Activity Center with graphs and reports showing the amount of data uploaded and downloaded by each device over time and track data usage across all devices for each profile. Live data usage is updated every five seconds to help users identify when a device is using more bandwidth than expected.
Within the Activity Center, you can keep track of your network’s data usage to see how much data (or bandwidth) each device or profile consumes over time. The data is updated regularly, providing you the most accurate insight into the usage of your network.
Data Usage Categories: Uploaded vs Downloaded
Your data usage graphs and reports will show you the total amount of data consumed on your network as the sum of uploaded and downloaded data over time. Uploaded and downloaded data used will differ between each device depending on what it’s used for.
To elaborate, upload is the amount of data used to do something like sending an email, posting photos or articles to your social media account or sharing music with friends. You can think about uploaded data as the amount of bandwidth used to share something from your device.
In contrast, download refers to the data used for something like receiving an email, streaming videos and music or opening a web page. Think of downloaded data as the bandwidth it takes to receive something to your device.
Usage by Device
Devices on your network may be using more data (or bandwidth) than you think. With eero Plus, you can see how much data each connected device on your network uses over the course of a single day, week or month - current and previous. Visibility into your data usage over time makes it easy for you to identify trends and anomalies.
With live data usage, available to all eero customers, you can see exactly how much data each of your devices is currently using. This makes it easy for you to identify when a device might be using more bandwidth than you expect. Live data usage refreshes every 5 seconds to give you the most up-to-date view into what's happening.
Usage by Profile
If you have created profiles on your network, grouping devices for each member of your family or household, you can track data usage across all devices for each profile. This makes it easy to spot patterns and help form healthy digital habits - perhaps reducing screen time when appropriate to connect as a family.
When viewing data usage by profile, any device connected to your network during the select time frame that has not been added to a profile will be listed under "Other Devices."

A: There are some connected home devices such as cameras, echos, etc, that are consistently connected to the network. Those devices may be sending or receiving data even when you are not interfacing with it.
Will Block Ads remove all online advertisements?
At this time, Block Ads isn't able to remove advertisements from:
- Hulu
- YouTube
Due to the ever-changing landscape of online ads, there is a chance that an advertisement is being served from a domain that we aren’t blocking. We’re always making improvements to the quality of our block list, and it wouldn’t be possible without your feedback. If you see an ad that you feel should be blocked, please copy the URL of the Ad and report it to support.
Why are my eero app speed test results different from the ones on my device?
The speed test in the eero app represents the speed between your gateway eero and the modem it is connected to; the test isn't the speed between your eero and the device the eero application is running on. For this reason, the speeds represented in the app will not change as you move around your home.
If you'd like to run a speed test on your client devices (phones, computers, laptops, etc.) to test your network speeds, there are many available resources, including www.speedtest.net. We typically check more than one speed test service, if possible, to ensure that your results are accurate.
If your speeds to your client devices do not reflect the speeds coming into your eero network, you may want to try the following:
- Toggle your client device's WiFi off and back on
- Move closer to an eero unit
- Run a network health check in the eero app (Menu > Help > Troubleshooting)
- Reboot your eero or entire network
