Domain Examples
- example.com — Affects the entire domain
- subdomain.example.com — Affects only that subdomain
- org — Affects all .org domains
Common Mistakes
- www.example.com
- Enter example.com instead. "www." only blocks that subdomain.
- Enter example.com instead. URLs aren't accepted — use FQDNs.
- example.com/page
- Enter example.com instead. Pages are removed automatically.
- *.org
- Enter org instead. Just enter the TLD name.
FAQ
What is an alias?
Some domains have aliases, known as CNAMEs (Canonical Name records). When adding a domain to your Allowed list, we'll prompt you to add any detected CNAMEs. Adding these helps ensure the site works as expected.
Why do my Block & Allow Sites settings take time to apply?
Changes usually take effect within seconds, but may be delayed due to:
Cached data — Your browser, device, or network may store cached data for minutes or hours. This is more likely if you've recently visited the site. Clearing your browser cache can help.
Why isn't a site fully blocked?
Popular sites often use multiple domains, so you may need to block additional domains to fully restrict access. Some devices use unique domains, which can cause different behavior.
