How do I resolve wifi network conflicts?

To resolve wifi network conflicts, change one of the duplicate network names. You can do this on your eero network through the eero app, or on the other network. Having multiple wireless networks in the same building can be useful for keeping certain devices separate, but connectivity issues can occur when networks share the same name.

What are wifi network conflicts?

Wifi network conflicts occur when your eero network shares the same name as another network in the vicinity. This normally happens with ISP wifi networks upstream of the eero. When networks share an identical name, it can be difficult to choose the intended network, both for customers and for the device.

If a device attempts to connect to a network with an identical wifi network name, it may fail to connect or it may attempt to connect to both interchangeably. To prevent these issues, resolve duplicate network names when detected.

How do I resolve wifi network conflicts?

The simplest way to resolve wifi network conflicts is to change one of the network names. This can be done on the eero network through the app, or on the non-eero network. Each option comes with its own considerations explained below.

Changing your non-eero network name

We recommend changing your non-eero network name. Doing so will ensure that all devices connected to your eero network will remain connected after the change.

Note: Changing your non-eero network name will briefly disconnect any devices that were previously connected to that network.

Methods to change your non-eero network name:

  • If your third party router has an app for their services, you may be able to change the wifi name within the app.
  • Some third party routers provide the option to change the wifi name in the portal on their website.
  • You can also often access your equipment's network settings by going to the IP address listed on the bottom/back of the non-eero equipment.
    • You must be connected to the non-eero network. We suggest hardwiring a device to the third party equipment.
    • Once connected, locate the IP address and place it in the URL bar on any browser.
    • The username and password is normally located on the bottom/back of the third party equipment.
  • You can contact the provider of your equipment for assistance in changing your network name.

Changing your eero network name

Changing the eero wifi network name can be done easily from the eero app, but will require all devices previously connected to be manually connected to the eero network.

To change your eero network name:

  1. Open your eero app, and tap the Settings tab in the bottom-right corner
  2. Tap Wifi name & password
  3. Change the name of your eero network, then tap SAVE when you're done
