What is Power Saving Schedule?

Power Saving Schedule lets you automatically reduce your network's power consumption during specific times. This helps you reduce your carbon footprint and energy costs while you maintain full control over your network's performance.

Power Saving Schedule is an optional feature that temporarily lowers your network's performance to save energy. It's perfect for times when you're not actively using your network, like overnight or during work hours when your home is empty.

You can set custom schedules that fit your lifestyle. Power Saving Schedule won't turn on automatically—you'll need to enable it first. Once it's set up, it's designed to work quietly in the background.

What are the Key features?

While Power Saving Schedule is running, your network will use less power. Primary network functions still work, but peak performance is reduced. Make sure you don't need optimal performance during your scheduled power-saving times.

  • Power saving schedules
    • Choose specific days and times when you want to save energy. You can create multiple schedules that run at different times throughout the day.
  • Adaptive Ethernet
    • This feature adjusts Ethernet link speeds to reduce power consumption.
    • Automatic downrated Ethernet performance Wi-Fi 7 eeros (eero 7, Max 7, Outdoor 7, PoE 7, Pro 7) to 1 Gb
    • See more information about Adaptive Ethernet: What is Adaptive Ethernet Mode?
  • Additional Performance Adjustments
    • Wifi radios adjust to 1x1 spatial stream, reducing optimal performance while maintaining connectivity
    • CPU performance reduction on certain eero models
  • Visual indicators
    • You'll see when Power Saving Schedule is active in the app so you always know your network's status.
    • The LED will turn green whenever an eero is in Power Saving Schedule mode.
  • Energy usage tracking
    • Check how much power you're saving through the eero app.

Please note that enabling Power Saving Schedule will temporarily disable wireless connectivity on your network for up to 5 seconds.

How do I  set up Power Saving Schedule?

  • Open the eero app and go to Settings > Advanced networking.
  • Scroll to the Network services section and select Eco efficiency.
  • Toggle Adaptive Ethernet on to enable power saving.
  • Toggle Power saving schedule “on” to set when Power Saving Schedule should automatically activate.
  • Select Add schedule to create a custom schedule, or choose from pre-set times.
  • When setting a custom schedule, enter a name for your schedule and select at least one day.
  • Tap Save to activate your schedule.

You can create multiple schedules that run at different times. For example, you might set one schedule for overnight and another for weekday work hours.

What is the best way to use Power Saving Schedule?

Plan around your usage

Set schedules for times when you're not streaming, gaming, or doing other activities that need high performance.

Start with one schedule

Try a single overnight schedule first to see how it works for you. You can always add more schedules later.

Verify status in the app

Use the eero app to quickly verify that SPS is active on your network. The app will display a green “leaf” icon at the top of the home screen whenever power saving is enabled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Power Saving Schedule affect connectivity for my wireless devices?

Enabling Power Saving Schedule will temporarily halt wireless connections to client devices for up to 5 seconds before they automatically reconnect. Be sure that your connected devices do not require constant connectivity before enabling Power Saving Schedule.

Can I set my Power Saving Schedule schedule to run overnight?

Yes you can. The app allows you to set a schedule for Power Saving Schedule that begins during the evening hours of one day and leads to the morning hours of the next day (such as 9 PM Tuesday to 6 AM Wednesday). To ensure that Power Saving Schedule is only active during expected times, be sure to appropriately select AM or PM, as needed.

Why is my network “stuck” in Power Saving Schedule mode?

Because the app allows users to select custom schedules for Power Saving Schedule to be active, it is possible to intentionally or accidentally select schedule hours that cover the majority of the day. If you notice that SPS is active when you don’t expect it to be, verify that the scheduled active times are correct.

Will Power Saving Schedule affect my smart home devices?

Your smart home devices will stay connected, but they may experience reduced performance during scheduled power-saving times.

Can I turn off Power Saving Schedule temporarily?

Yes. You can toggle Power Saving Schedule off in the eero app anytime. Your schedules will be saved so you can turn it back on later.

What happens if I need full performance during a scheduled time?

You can disable Power Saving Schedule in the app anytime you need full network performance. Just toggle it off temporarily, then turn it back on when you're ready.

How much energy will I save?

Energy savings vary based on your network setup and usage, but the typical expected energy savings for most common network configurations is roughly 43.8 kWh per year. To put this figure into perspective, 43.8 kWh is roughly equivalent to:

  • Using a standard 1,000W–1,200W vacuum cleaner for about 58 hours total (just over an hour every week for the year).
  • Brewing about 365 pots of coffee (one 12-cup pot every day per year)
  • Watching a 40-inch LED TV for about 3 hours every single day for an entire year
