Can I use eero with my current ISP or modem?

Yes, eero has been tested for compatibility with most major Internet Service Providers (ISPs). To see where eero is available, see Where is eero available?

As long as you can connect your gateway eero to a modem or upstream device with an Ethernet cable, you should be able to set up and use eero.

Some modems and ISPs require special configurations. If you're unsure what your ISP uses, reach out to your service provider. They can confirm any special setup requirements.

Can I use eero with a modem router combo?

Many ISPs provide a single device that acts as a modem and a router simultaneously. If you have one of these devices, you should:

  1. Follow the setup instructions in the eero App. When the app prompts you, connect your gateway eero to your modem. Use an Ethernet cable to attach it directly to your modem or router combo device.
  2. When prompted to create a network name, select a unique network name (SSID) for your eero network.
  3. [Optional] After setting up your eeros, you can optimize network performance. Turn off the routing and wifi functionality of your modem router combo device. You do this by putting it in Bridge mode. This step is not mandatory.

Can I use eero with an Optical Network Terminal (ONT)?

An ONT is similar to a cable modem, but functions for fiber networks. These can come in all shapes and sizes and may not always be visible. Some ONTs may be located on the outside of the building with an adapter that converts the fiber connection to Ethernet or coax located inside.

Can I use eero without a modem?

Some ISPs don't require their users to have a modem. This is commonly found in apartment complexes where the only equipment visible in the residence is an Ethernet jack. In these cases, skip the modem instructions in the eero app. Instead, plug your gateway eero into the Ethernet jack on your wall.

Can I use eero with bundled TV or phone services?

Some ISPs require customers to use their networking equipment for special configurations or services like TV and phone. In most of these cases, we suggest setting up the eero behind your existing router in double NAT or Bridge mode. In some instances, ISPs have specific requirements needed to use another router with their service. See below for more information on specific ISP settings:

Can I use eero if my ISP requires PPPoE, Static IP, or VLAN?

eero supports all three of these protocols. For more information, see our dedicated article: How do I configure ISP settings?

Can I use eero if my ISP requires IPv4 to IPv6 protocols?

eero supports full Dual Stack IPv6 in all regions eero is available.

eero supports MAP-E/DS-lite in Japan. While it may be possible to use these protocols in other regions, we cannot guarantee the eero will function as intended. If your ISP requires these protocols and you are located outside of Japan, we suggest setting up the eero behind your existing router in double NAT or Bridge mode.
