What is bridge mode?

Bridge mode disables a device's routing and wifi capabilities, letting it function only as a modem or access point.

How do I put my modem/router combo in bridge mode?

You can find some general steps to put your modem router combo in bridge mode in How do I bridge my upstream modem/router combo device?

What if my modem/router combo doesn't offer bridge mode?

Some devices don't offer bridge mode. If your device doesn't offer bridge mode, turn off wifi on the equipment provided by your ISP and put your eeros in bridge mode.

How do I put my eeros in bridge mode?

  1. Create your network by following the steps in How do I set up eero?
  2. If you already have an eero network, open the eero app and tap the Settings tab
  3. Tap Advanced networking
  4. Under Network services, tap DHCP & NAT
  5. Switch your selection from Automatic to Bridge

Tip: If your network configuration necessitates bridge mode to function, you'll have to first set up your eero network by double NATing.

Can I use bridge mode with eero Plus?

Yes. Bridging your eeros as an eero Plus customer will still let you access features such as 1Password, Guardian VPN, Malwarebytes, Dynamic DNS (DDNS), and wifi radio analytics.

However, there are Plus features that don't work properly in bridge mode. This includes Advanced security, Ad Blocking, Content Filters, historical data usage, and Hotspot Backup.

To access the available eero Plus features once bridge mode has been selected

  1. Tap the Home tab
  2. Tap the box under Privacy & security
  3. You'll then see VPN by Guardian, Password manager, Malwarebytes, and DDNS

Tip: To access radio analytics, tap the Home tab, select your eero, and tap Wifi radio analytics.

Why would I put my eeros in bridge mode?

Putting your eero network in bridge mode lets you continue managing your network through your existing router. While we don't generally recommend this approach, as you'll lose some advanced features of eero, it may be necessary for customers with certain network configurations. If you have a modem/router combo, we recommend putting that device in bridge mode.

Putting eeros in bridge mode turns off their network services but allows the eeros to continue providing wifi access. You won't be able to manage your network's advanced features through the eero app with your eeros in bridge mode. Additionally, bridge mode requires that one eero remain wired into the network through Ethernet. Your network configuration shouldn't change when in bridge mode, meaning all connections must funnel through one Gateway eero.

There are a handful of scenarios when bridging your eeros is required

  • Your provider is AT&T U-Verse, which provides wifi/DHCP
  • Your provider requires PPPoE*
  • Your ISP requires a specific MAC address matching their provided equipment

*As of the release of eeroOS v6.6.1 and eero app version 6.13.0, eero Pro 6 and eero 6 now support PPPoE.
