How do I identify the devices on my network and assign nicknames?

You can assign custom nicknames to any device on your network to make them easier to identify in the eero App. We recommend giving each device a nickname when you connect it.

To assign or edit a device's nickname:

  1. Locate the device on the Home tab under Devices, or search for it in the Devices tab
  2. Tap the device’s current nickname
  3. On the Device page, tap the device’s current nickname again to open the Appearance page
  4. Edit the nickname and/or change the symbol that identifies the device’s type
  5. Tap Save in the upper-right corner when you’re finished

How do I differentiate between the devices on my connected device list?

Check the manufacturer name to identify unfamiliar devices. Different manufacturers report device information differently, so a device you don't recognize may become clear once you see who made it.

To check a device's manufacturer:

  1. On the Home or Device tabs, tap the unfamiliar device
  2. Scroll down, and tap Device information
  3. Review the Manufacturer field

If you still can't identify the device, you can look up its IP or MAC address and compare it to the device addresses in the eero App. This information is usually found in the wifi or network settings of your device.

Note: Some devices may be using MAC address randomization to obscure its true MAC address. See Does eero support devices that use MAC Address Randomization?

Why doesn't my device manufacturer look familiar?

Most devices carry a device ID that correlates to that specific device. However, some devices contain wireless or Ethernet chipsets made by third-party companies. For example, many PC and Android devices include wireless chipsets made by third parties.

The device manufacturer information displayed in the eero App reflects the device's wireless or Ethernet chipset manufacturer, not necessarily the device brand you recognize.

Why does one device appear in my device list more than once?

Some devices have two wireless cards or separate wireless and Ethernet cards. If you connected a device to your network wirelessly and via Ethernet at different times, it may appear in your connected device list more than once. We encourage you to give each instance a nickname to avoid confusion.
