What is DDNS?

Dynamic DNS (DDNS) lets you remotely access your network using a simple, memorable hostname instead of your network's public IP address. This works even if your IP address changes.

DDNS is available to eero Plus subscribers.

How does Dynamic DNS work?

Domain Name System (DNS) translates IP addresses into recognizable domain names (like eero.com). DNS allows devices on your network to access all the websites and apps you use.

Most residential and commercial internet connections use dynamic IP addresses, which can change without notice. This makes remote access difficult — similar to having a street address that randomly changes without informing you.

DDNS solves this by translating your network's external IP address into a single, permanent domain. No matter how often your external IP changes, your domain stays the same.

How do I enable Dynamic DNS?

Once you subscribe to eero Plus, follow these steps to enable DDNS:

From the Home tab:

  1. Open the eero App, and tap Home in the bottom-left corner
  2. Scroll down, and tap the box under Security & privacy
  3. Under Advanced networking settings and insights, tap DDNS
  4. Tap the toggle button to the right of DDNS

From the Settings tab:

  1. Open the eero App, and tap Settings in the bottom-right corner
  2. Tap Advanced networking
  3. Under Network services, tap Dynamic DNS
  4. Tap the toggle button to the right of DDNS

Your network's permanent URL is shown under Domain. With DDNS enabled, you can use this domain instead of your external IP address to remotely access devices on your eero network.

Note: Your eero network must use single NAT, not bridge mode, for DDNS to work properly. If you have a modem/router combo or upstream router, place it in bridge mode so your eero is the only router. See How do I put my modem/router combo in bridge mode? to learn how to put your modem/router combo in bridge mode.

How do I use port forwarding with DDNS?

DDNS gets you to the router. To access specific devices, enable port forwarding. See How do I configure port forwarding? to set up port forwards for your devices.

Once configured, access the forwarded port by adding the port number to your DDNS domain (e.g., 123.eero.online:8080).

How do I add SSL to my DDNS domain?

To add SSL functionality to your DDNS domain, consider services like Let's Encrypt. With Let's Encrypt, you can verify the eero subdomain (e.g., 123.eero.online) over HTTP with a well-known file on your server. See Challenge Types for setup details.

What if I need to update my DDNS domain?

If you'd like to change your DDNS domain, contact eero Support and we can generate a new one for you.

How do I forward a custom domain to my DDNS?

If you have a custom domain or want one that's easier to remember, you can set it up to redirect to your eero domain. See Domain Forwarding Guide from GoDaddy for setup instructions.

Note: eero includes links to these third-party services for convenience, but does not take responsibility for your use of such services.

How do I report abuse?

To report abuse of an eero DDNS domain, you must do so via the Amazon Web Services abuse reporting process here: Report Abusive Activity from Amazon Web Services Resources. For more information, please refer to our DDNS Acceptable Use Policy available here: eero Dynamic DNS Service - Global Acceptable Use Policy.
