How do I enable the hotspot on my iPhone while setting up a backup?
iOS:
If you don't see the option for Personal Hotspot, contact your carrier to make sure that you can use Personal Hotspot with your plan.
Note: If setting up a backup during an internet outage, please enable your Personal Hotspot via Control Center instead of the Settings app. |
Android:
If you don’t find Hotspot , at the bottom left, tap Edit and drag Hotspot into your Quick Settings. How you access hotspots on Android devices will depend on which phone you have and what version of Android you're running. You can generally open the pull-down shade and turn on your mobile hotspot from there or find it in settings. Once your hotspot is enabled, you will be able to see and edit the password (sometimes referred to as a security key) for your hotspot. |
How can I improve the speed and signal strength of my backup network?
Coverage, speeds, and reliability will depend on the backup connection you are using. For example, some higher-bandwidth activities like 4K streaming may perform differently when you use your cell phone as a backup hotspot, versus using a secondary wifi network. To maximize the performance of your backup connection, we suggest the following:
-
Before using eero Internet Backup, make sure your eero network includes compatible eero gateway devices.
- Compatible devices include eero, eero 6, eero 6+, eero Pro 6, eero Pro 6E, eero PoE 6, eero Max 7, Ring Alarm Pro, eero 6 extender, eero Pro, and eero Beacon.
- eero Built-in-enabled Echo devices can be used as access points on a network running eero Internet Backup, but can not be used as gateway connections.
- If using a backup hotspot on a mobile device, make sure your device has reliable cellular coverage in the area where you are trying to use it.
- The further away your mobile device is from the room your compatible eero device is in will affect the eero device’s ability to connect to your backup hotspot. Additional obstructions, like walls, will also affect your mobile device’s backup signal strength.
- While eero Internet Backup is running, you can reduce hotspot strain by enabling wifi access for the devices you want to stay connected during an outage and disabling access for high-bandwidth devices you don't need.
Step 1 | Go to Settings and tap on Devices |
Step 2 | Tap on a device(s) blue check mark to to disable wifi access |
Step 3 | Alternatively, you can disable access to all devices and then tap on each device to provide individual wifi access |
