If you run into issues during setup, the eero App will display an error message. Below are the most common errors and how to resolve them.
Pre-Setup errors
Bluetooth error
Setting up eero requires the use of an Android or iOS device with Bluetooth enabled. If setup is attempted when Bluetooth is inactive, one of the following error messages will display:

Allow Access Error Message |
Enable Bluetooth Error Message |
Troubleshooting
- For iOS devices, refer to Apple’s guide on connecting Bluetooth devices to an iOS device.
- For Android devices, refer to Google’s guide on connecting Bluetooth devices to an Android.
Wifi-only device error
If a wifi-only device with no mobile data capability is used for setup, the app will display a message indicating that a mobile data-capable device is required.
Troubleshooting
- Switch to a smartphone with an active mobile connection
- If you don’t personally own a smartphone with a mobile connection, you may need to temporarily borrow one for setup
Setup errors
eero Identification errors
The eero app uses Bluetooth to scan for nearby eeros, but it can only set up one at a time. If multiple eeros are powered on during setup, the app may detect the wrong one — or fail to detect any.

Troubleshooting
- If you’re setting up multiple eeros, you can follow the app’s instructions and focus on the eero with a green LED
- Alternatively, disconnect other eeros from power until you’ve set up the one you’re working on
- If the app fails to detect an eero, make sure your phone is in Bluetooth reception range of the eero
- You can also use the Scan barcode feature to manually identify the eero
- If your eero is already associated with a network, perform a hard reset to prepare it for setup
Connection issues
If your mobile data connection is interrupted during setup, or your eero is not receiving a signal from your internet service provider (ISP), the app will display an error message asking to confirm connectivity.
Troubleshooting
- Verify that you have an active internet connection by connecting a laptop to your modem via Ethernet to see if websites load. Disconnect any other devices before setting up your eero.
- Leave the modem and gateway eero connected via Ethernet, and restart both the modem and the eero
- Contact your ISP to ensure there are no internet outages in your area, and your modem is working normally
