My Xbox says my NAT is “Strict” or “Moderate” and won’t let me join online games. How do I fix this?

If your Xbox is giving you an error code that says "Strict" or "Moderate", we recommend making sure that you have toggled UPnP to On (the toggle will be green). To do so, take the following steps:

iOS User:

  1. Open the eero app
  2. Tap the Settings icon in the bottom right corner
  3. Tap Advanced 
  4. Tap UPnP and toggle it to On

Android User:

  1. Open the eero app
  2. Tap the menu button in the top left corner
  3. Tap Network Settings
  4. Tap Advanced Settings
  5. Tap UPnP and toggle it to On

If you continue to see the error message, you should open the following ports in your eero app to solve the issue:

Protocol

Port(s) to Open

UDP

88, 500, 3544, 4500

TCP

80

UDP & TCP

3074, 53

You can accomplish this from the mobile app by doing the following:

iOS User:

  1. Tap the Settings icon in the bottom right corner
  2. Tap Advanced 
  3. Tap Reservations and Port Forwarding
  4. Tap Add a reservation 
  5. Tap on your Xbox from the device list
  6. Tap Open a port and follow the prompts for each of the ports you wish to forward

Android User:

  1. Tap the menu button in the top left corner of your dashboard
  2. Tap Network Settings
  3. Tap Advanced settings
  4. Tap Reservations and Port Forwarding
  5. Tap Add a reservation 
  6. Tap on your Xbox from the device list
  7. Tap Open a port and follow the prompts for each of the ports you wish to forward

After you've taken these steps, you're ready to get back out there and show you are the best Master Chief.
