You can use your eero App to run an internet speed test. The results show your network's download and upload speeds in megabits per second (Mbps).
Download speed measures how fast information travels from the internet to your network.
Upload speed measures how fast information travels from your network to the internet.
The higher the Mbps number, the faster your internet connection will be. For example:
- 2 Mbps: A typical web page loads in about half a second, and a 5-minute song downloads in 20–30 seconds
- 12 Mbps: A web page loads almost instantly, and the same song downloads in about a second
Here are the speeds required for common activities:
- 100+ Mbps: Multiple HD video streams
- 50+ Mbps: Video chat and gaming
- 25+ Mbps: Netflix or YouTube
- 5+ Mbps: Pandora, Spotify, or web browsing
How does the eero App measure speed test results?
The speed test in the eero App measures the speed that your network receives from your internet service provider (ISP). You can scroll through previous results in the Activity tab. These results reflect the rate at which data is downloaded to, and uploaded from, your Gateway eero and a nearby server.
Since the test measures speed from your Gateway eero to the internet and back, your results won't be affected by where you are when you run the test. Whether you're in your living room, bedroom, or away from home, the app tests the same connection.
Note: Third-party speed tests run from a connected device on your network may show results that differ from the eero App speed test. See Why are my eero App speed test results different than the ones on my device?
