If you have devices on your network that have difficulty connecting because they don’t support certain features that eero enables by default, you can contact eero Support for further assistance. Support has the ability to configure your network to disable these features. This feature is called Compatibility Mode.
What does Compatibility Mode do?
Compatibility mode works by disabling a number of features that the eero uses by default to optimize connectivity for newer devices. In particular, the following features are disabled and may reflect as disabled in the app when Compatibility Mode is on:
While these features can be configured individually in the App, it may be difficult to identify which of them is causing issues for your device. Grouping them together provides a convenient way to quickly minimize the number of potential problems preventing your device from connecting properly.
Does Compatibility Mode affect network performance?
While Compatibility Mode does not affect network stability, network speed may be affected for certain devices. This is due to Compatibility Mode disabling advanced features which allow for higher client speeds on newer devices.
If you are noticing reduced device performance with Compatibility Mode enabled, this may be the reason. Support will notify you of this potential issue when enabling Compatibility mode, and you can ask Support to disable the setting if the performance impact is too great.
