About Ring Alarm Pro: Cellular internet

Ring Alarm Pro provides backup internet through cellular data when your primary connection fails. The device has a built-in cellular modem that keeps your network online during outages through the 24/7 Backup Internet feature (Ring AI Pro subscription required). Ring Alarm Pro can connect to your network as either an extender or gateway eero.

Note: Compatible Ring AI Pro subscription required (sold separately). Extra data charges may apply. Cellular data is provided by a third party carrier. Backup power required during power outage. Visit ring.com/alarm-pro for details.

How does Ring Alarm Pro work?

Ring Alarm Pro keeps your network online during internet outages by automatically switching to cellular data. You can set it up with:

  • Wired ISP connection (primary) — Your main internet connection
  • Cellular backup connection — Requires Ring AI Pro subscription for 24/7 Backup Internet
  • Wireless connection to an existing eero network — Ring Alarm Pro acts as an extender

When your primary internet goes out, all devices on your network can still access the internet through cellular data.

What happens when the internet goes out?

Your Ring Alarm Pro plan offers cellular backup through the 24/7 Backup Internet feature. When your primary wired internet connection goes out, or if you don't have internet service, you can use cellular data to connect all devices on your wifi network to the internet.

The 24/7 Backup Internet feature included with the Ring Alarm Pro plan gives you 3GB of data every month. If you need more, you can opt into Extra Data, and you'll only pay for data you use.

Note: If you don't opt into Extra Data and use up your 3GB for the month, Ring Alarm Pro will switch to Alarm Cellular Backup which provides access to only some Ring Alarm security features. When an internet connection is restored, Ring Alarm Pro will automatically switch back to using it. Your 3GB will reset on the first day of the new billing cycle, and unused data does not rollover to the next month.

Note: A compatible Ring AI Pro subscription required (sold separately). Alarm Cellular Backup uses a third-party carrier.

What happens when the power goes out?

When the power goes out, Ring Alarm Pro stays online through:

Internal backup battery — Built into the Base Station. Provides limited access to Alarm features only.

Ring Power Packs (sold separately) — Connect up to four fully-charged Power Packs to keep all Ring Alarm Pro features available for hours. Ring Power Packs can also provide backup power to your eero 6 Extenders (sold separately), which will keep your expanded wifi network up if you lose power.

Where can I see how much data my Ring Alarm Pro has used?

In the Ring app, go to your Ring Alarm Pro settings to view data usage ( Ring AI Pro subscription required).

How do I manage which device has access to 24/7 Backup Internet?

Use both apps to manage your devices:

Ring app — Manage 24/7 Backup Internet data usage for your Ring devices (Ring AI Pro subscription required)

eero App — Manage which devices can use the internet. Toggle on 24/7 Backup Internet access for each non-Ring device on the device detail screen.

What eero features work with 24/7 Backup Internet?

Most eero features work with 24/7 Backup Internet. The following features are not available:

  • Port forwards
  • DDNS (eero Plus feature)
  • UPnP
  • IPv6
  • Automatic speed tests (you can still run manual speed tests in the eero app, but data usage counts toward your Ring Alarm Pro plan)
  • SQM
