What is the Devices tab in the eero App?

The Devices tab shows all active and recently active devices on your network.

To add a device to your network, locate its wireless settings or follow the device's instructions. For wired connections, connect an Ethernet cable between the device and your eero. The Devices tab has a blueplus.pngblue plus icon that lets you share your wifi details through text, direct message, or QR code.

Devices on the network appear with icons that help identify their function. Phones, laptops, desktop computers, tablets, and Internet-of-Things (IoT) devices such as cameras and speakers are identified this way, along with other device types.

Connection type and strength

Each device shows a connection icon indicating whether it's wired or wireless. Tap the device name to see more details.

On the device details page, you'll find additional information about the connection type, such as its IP address. For wireless devices, you'll see connection strength details.

Device connection types:

  • Wired: The device is hardwired to the eero through Ethernet
  • Wireless: The device is connected to the network through wifi

When your devices are connected wirelessly, they'll use the 2.4, 5, or 6 GHz bands. The big differences between these bands are range and speed. You can learn more at What are wifi channels, and why does channel size matter?

Wireless connection strength:

  • 4 bars: Excellent, stable connection with maximum speeds
  • 3 bars: Good, stable connection with near-maximum speeds
  • 2 bars: Acceptable connection with possible buffering and slower speeds
  • 1 bar: Poor connection with slower speeds and interruptions — move closer to your eero
  • 0 bars: No connection — move closer to your eero to reconnect

What device information is available with eero?

The eero app makes it easy to identify important information about devices on your network. In the Devices tab, individual devices are divided into the following categories:

  • Computers & Personal: Desktops, laptops, smartphones, tablets, and e-readers
  • Entertainment: Gaming consoles, TVs, and wifi-enabled speakers
  • Home: IoT devices like thermostats, doorbells, hubs, and smart home lights
  • Point of Sale: Cash registers and credit card readers
  • Other: Networking equipment and unnamed devices
  • Recently Online: Offline devices connected within the last 7 days
  • Blocked: Devices you've blocked from your network (only appears if you have blocked devices)

If you're looking for a particular device or group of devices, you have access to a variety of filters to narrow down the list, including the network they're connected to (guest or main), the eero they're connected to, device and connection types, and manufacturer. You can sort the list alphabetically or by age (how long it's been online or offline).

Tapping a device brings up a details page that includes its:

  • Name
  • Profile
  • The eero it's connected to
  • The wifi band it's using
  • Live download and upload speeds
  • IP and MAC addresses
  • Manufacturer

How do I see how much bandwidth my devices are using?

To view real-time bandwidth usage for a device:

  1. Open the eero App
  2. Locate the device through one of two ways:
    • On the Home tab, scroll left or right under Devices
    • On the Devices tab, search your device's name, MAC address, or IP address, and filter the results as necessary
  3. The device's bandwidth usage is listed under Activity
    • If the device is idle, it will show the Last Active time

Note: Local network traffic, such as downloading movies from a local media server, won't factor into these usage numbers.
