Connection strength refers to the reliability of the wireless internet connection between a device and the wifi network it's connected to. This article explains connection strength as it relates to your eeros. To learn more about the connection strength of your personal devices, see What does the “device connection type” under “device details” represent?
Connection strength between eeros is essential because it impacts the connection strength of devices connected to them.
What do the connection symbols in the eero app represent?
On the eero App Home page, each of your eeros will have a special symbol representing how they're connected to your network.
Connection types:
-
Wired
- For eero nodes: The eero is hardwired using Ethernet to the Gateway eero directly or via a network switch
- For the Gateway eero: The eero is connected to WAN via Ethernet
- Wireless — The eero is connected via wireless mesh.
To check the connection strength of a wireless eero, tap the eero's nickname at the top of the eero App Home page.
The strength of a particular eero's connection to the rest of your eero mesh is shown in up to 4 status bars.
Connection strength:
- 4 bars — The eero has a strong, stable mesh. Any devices within range of this eero should perform to their full potential.
- 3 bars — The eero has a good, stable mesh. Any devices within range of this eero should reach close to their maximum speeds.
- 2 bars — The eero has an acceptable mesh. Any devices within range of this eero should perform adequately, though they may experience slower speeds and/or buffering.
- 1 bar — The eero has a poor mesh.
- 0 bars — The eero has lost its mesh connection and has dropped offline.
Note: The status bar descriptions above relate only to eero connections.
If one of your wireless eeros is offline or has a consistently poor connection, you may need to adjust its placement. See Where should I place my eeros?
